Nursing homes can turn dangerous when seniors are isolated

On Behalf of | Mar 24, 2020 | Personal Injury

There are instances in which nursing homes might need to limit or eliminate visitors to the facility to help increase the safety of the residents. While it is usually easy to understand the underlying reason for the isolation, family members do have a serious complication to think about in these cases – nursing home abuse or neglect.

Seniors who are in nursing homes usually rely heavily on visits from family members and friends to check on them. Not only does this give them some socialization and feelings of love, it’s also a good time for the visitors to see if there are any signs that something is amiss.

Unfortunately, the lack of visits means that some seniors who are being abused might not have anyone notice the signs. These residents usually won’t say anything about the abuse or any other mistreatment because they don’t want to be a burden.

In a time of limited or eliminated nursing home visits, people should find ways to keep in contact with nursing home residents. Not only does this give you a chance to find out how they’re faring with the restrictions, it also gives them a vital lifeline to seek out help if things are getting rough.

It can be difficult to determine what’s going on with your loved one during this time. If you think anything is wrong, dig into the situation a bit deeper. Trying to stop issues early is one key to ensuring your loved one can live the remainder of their days in peace. If you do find out that the resident is being abused or neglected, you can consider legal action.
