When you see someone drinking and driving, you probably think badly of them. You may think these drivers are irresponsible and a danger to society. Yet why do you not feel the same about someone who is texting and driving?
You may have driven while texting yourself. Even if you have not, you probably know plenty of people that do it. An American Automobile survey said 82% of drivers admitted to having used their phone while driving. How many of us would admit to drinking and driving? Far fewer, you would hope.
Car crashes kill more otherwise healthy Americans than anything else. Here are some statistics to consider:

- 25% of car accidents are caused by texting while driving
- 4,637 Americans died in 2018 due to texting and driving
- Texting while driving makes it 23 times more likely you will crash
Next time you are out driving, count how many people you see on their phones. You can see they are not paying attention to the road. You can see they are not paying attention to you. How do you feel about that? Does it make you feel safe being on the road near them?
